Strawberries and rose are flavours that work really well together. This recipe for strawberries in rose syrup is just 112 calories on its own if you fancy something light but sweet, or it works really well served with waffles and yogurt for a more substantial dessert.

- 300ml rosé wine
- 1 tsp rose water
- 125g golden caster sugar
- 1 lemonpeeled with a swivel peeler
- 600g strawberriessmall ones left whole
- toasted waffles

Method
step 1
Put the wine, rose water, sugar and lemon peel into a large, wide saucepan with 100ml water. Heat the liquid gently until the sugar has dissolved, then turn up the heat and bring to a simmer for 10 minutes, until you have a syrup. Leave to cool. Remove the lemon zest.

Add the strawberries and toss them in the cooled syrup. Serve on warm waffles with a spoon of greek yogurt.
